Tsunami. The Aftermath. 2010
Part of my transitition towards a looser and more experimental style, in which I used pallet knife to apply heavy texture.
Though undertaken as an artistic experiment and not with a particular reference in mind, by strange coincidence it was completed shortly before the events of the Tohoku tsunami in 2011.
The texture went in many directions before settling, thus adding rather aptly to the expressive and wavey look. The sepia tones, also rather fittingly give it the aura of an out of focus photo printed in an old newspaper article.
The hazy effect is nightmarish, like something truly frightening unfolding in rapid glimpses through fog.
