Nocturne. Worcester Cathedral. 2006
Mikhael Bulgakov's iconic novel 'The Master And Margarita' was a big influence on my early work because it's a visually rich and evocative read. I was drawn to using Worcester Cathedral and the riverside as the setting for my interpretations of the book narratives, because at night the area had an eery atmosphere, perfect for supernatural happenings.
I tried to suggest an unsettling atmosphere without giving too much of the book away. The ominous black void to the left representing a hole into another world, the mist around the bench and the hint of a ghostly apparition being the last traces of an unworldly presence. The unsuspecting man walks on, but the dog detects something is off.
