Blue Gondola. Venice Study No. 3.
The city of Venice had a big impact on my artistic development and fascination with architecture in my early work. My desire to capture the texture and colour of the buildings and the vibrant reflections in the water stimulated my imagination.
I captured this scene early one morning when the city seemed eerily calm and empty, like it was abandoned. I glimpsed the moment the sun was just coming up and the shadows were tinted a deep blue. I hoped to capture to the magic of that moment, but also allow the empty boats to evoke that calm.
